Description: This is an interior studio photograph of the 1894 David City, Nebraska, baseball team. Dolan, 3rd B.The numbers preceding each person's name correspond to numbers hand-painted onto the image. In the photo small discrete white numbers appear on the chest of each player and the manager. These numbers in turn are indexed to the numbers printed on the frame.One of the unusual aspects of this photo is that it reflects the fact the 1894 David City baseball team was racially integrated - an unusual arrangement for this time period. Three African-American members are shown among the ten players visible in the photo. The three African-American players are Will Lincoln (back row), Jack Reeves (middle row), and Frank Maupin (front row). All three of these players had been on the Lincoln (NE) Giants - an all African-American baseball team - during that team's abbreviated 1890 and 1891 seasons.David City Base Ball Club, 1894.
