Description:
Thomas J. Brown was born in Illinois in 1853. He was soon orphaned and went to live with the J.H. Horbet family. The Horbets moved to Nebraska in 1860. Brown attended Doane College at Crete, Nebraska, ca. 1873-1875. He married Annie Marie White in 1877. Brown served as a preacher in several communities over the next forty years, including Hemingford and North Platte, Nebraska. He retired around 1920 and moved with his wife to La Verne, California. Thomas J. Brown died in Los Angeles, California, on September 27, 1939.These two letters written by T.J. Brown to A.E. Sheldon of the Nebraska State Historical Society describe reminiscences written by Brown, and include additional information about his family.
