Description: Interior studio portrait of Frank Man-Afraid-of-His-Horse and his wife.Note attached to back: "His grandmother was Bear Robe, daughter of Bull Bear, head chief of Oglalas; his grandfather was Henry Chatillion, guide of Francis Parkman in "The Oregon Trail." His mother was the child of the above two, and she married Young-Man-Afraid-of-His-Horse and Frank was born in 1876. His father had also a full-blood Oglala wife, who was the mother of a son, regarded as the successor of Young-Man-Afraid-of-His-Horse as chief. Frank as a mixed blood was not regarded as important. --George E. Hyde"
