Many of the people are identified: 1-Squaw; 2-David Whale; 3-Nice Voice Eagle; 4-Chief Swift Swift Bear; 5-7 unidentified; 8-a face only; 9-Chief Howley; 10-Chief White Shirt; 11-13 unidentified. An added note: "Santee Sioux said that David Whale was a most feared medicine man. He worked in the traditional way until he died."
